Research into Gender Based Toys
- When children are little they are given gender based toys so that they grow up believing in them roles.
- For example a young girl may be given a cooking set where as a boy may be given trucks and cars.
- This could influence the way they view things in the world when they grow up.
- Girls may grow up to believe that there job in the household is to cook whereas, the boys would believe they are the breadwinners.
- Although these values are seen to be old fashioned up until today, children are given gender based toys.
Sociological perspectives and theories
- What is Functionalism?

Interview teachers (sociology and English).
Ask parents why they give their children gender based toys and not let them play with toys which are seen to be of the other sex.
Interview children on their views and what they have been taught whilst growing up.
Why do you think it is more acceptable for girls to play with boys toys yet boys cant play with girl toys?
Why do you think that some people actually stick to the stereotype of giving their children gender based toys?
LOCATION
I would like to film in a busy area such as oxford street so that I can get a lot of views.
I will also think it will be better if I film on possibly at Saturday because that is when oxford street is the busiest.4
However, I could also get permission to film outside a primary school because that way I could get plenty of parents opinions and views as well as children themselves.
I'm not too sure about the location at this present moment but outside a primary school will be a better option.
We could come across some problems when filming:
It could be raining and people will not want to stand in the rain to answer some questions.
